  • I’m listening to “me and you” by Kenny Chesney, and it’s reminding me of my first full-time radio DJ job.  It was at a small station in Albany, Oregon, called Cricket Country.  We played this song constantly the year I was there – 1997.  It’s amazing how music can be such a powerful reminder of our past.  Cricket Country was a much simpler and happier time in my life.  I worked the 7 to midnight shift, and would often arrive to the studio with a Mexican food platter from a neighboring restaurant.  And sometimes a huge peach slurpee, or Dr. Pepper.  I’d take calls on the request lines from my regular listeners, like Hope, Misty, Kevin, Lena, and Sarah.  Then after the show, I’d get an omelette and hash browns at the 24-hour diner.  I had no money, rental furniture, and an ’85 Oldsmobile, but I was happy.
